Campaigning for Leyton and Wanstead

Comment from Liberal Democrat PPC Farooq Qureshi

9.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 1st Jun 2009

Leyton and Wanstead Liberal Democrat PPC Farooq Qureshi has hit out at local Labour MP Harry Cohen after he failed to turn up in Parliament to support a bill that would lower your fuel bills.Despite backing from Age Concern, Friends of the Earth and Help the Aged, the Labour Government used parliamentary tricks to stop the bill being agreed. Cllr Qureshi said: "Local Labour councillors have tried to hide their MP's failure to support local residents. But we want to know why Harry Cohen did not show up and support the needy residents of our constituency. Leyton and Wanstead ranks as one of the worst constituencies in London for high energy bills and poor home insulation. Wewant to help some of the most vulnerable residents of Leyton and Wanstead at a time when fuel costs are rocketing and many people are finding it tough. Why won't Harry Cohen do his bit?"
